Spain’s 8 cheapest cities for food revealed – top spot with £2.80 bottle of wine | Europe | Travel

While many of Spain’s most popular holiday hotspots, such as Barcelona and the Balearic Islands, appear to be losing tourists due to soaring food prices, fortunately, there are still plenty of cities across the southern European country that offer more affordable yet equally delicious meals. According to travel booking website Omio, which has calculated the average cost of an inexpensive meal across Spain’s main cities, the top spot on the list boasts an average price of just £8.27, whereas in places like Barcelona, you would be expected to fork out £13 for a supposedly inexpensive restaurant meal, according to Numbeo.

The pretty historic market town of Albox, a whitewashed settlement in Andalusia surrounded by hills and olive groves, claimed the top spot. Perfect for holidaymakers seeking a taste of authentic Spanish culture, the average cost of a bottle of wine in Albox is just £2.83, while the cost of a meal for two is £19.36. According to Numbeo, while in Spain’s capital, Madrid, visitors are asked to pay an average of €2.77 (£2.40) for a regular cappuccino; here, you can buy the same for only €1.50 (£1.30). A half-litre domestic beer, meanwhile, costs just €2.50 (£2.17) in Albox, while in Madrid they often cost €3.80 (£3.30).

Taking second place is the popular Gran Canarian city of Las Palmas, where an inexpensive meal averages at £9.14. Wine is slightly pricier at £4.68, but still very affordable, making a meal for two with wine just £22.95. A domestic beer here costs just €2.10, compared to Madrid’s €2.77, or Palma de Mallorca’s eyewatering €4.00 (£3.47).

In third is Granada, another beautiful city in the Andalusian region. Here, an average meal costs £11.31 and a bottle of wine around £4.35, bringing dinner for two to just £26.97. Closing out the top five were two well-known southern destinations – Seville and Marbella – with a meal and wine for two costing just £27.80.

While Albox topped the list for the cheapest bottles, the inland city of Zaragoza in Spain’s Aragón region was not far off the mark at just £3.05 a bottle. Alicante and Adra follow closely at around £3.48.

  1. Albox, Andalusia – £8.27 for an inexpensive meal
  2. Las Palmas, Gran Canaria – £9.14
  3. Granada, Andalusia – £11.31
  4. Seville, Andalusia – £27.80 for a meal and wine for two
  5. Marbella, Andalusia – £27.80 for a meal and wine for two
  6. Zaragoza, Aragon – £3.05 for a bottle
  7. Alicante, Valencia – £3.48 for a bottle
  8. Adra, Andalusia – £3.48 for a bottle

This comes as it was revealed that bars and restaurants in Majorca are suffering more than anywhere else in Spain from high food prices. In its Restaurant Results in summer 2025 report, Delectatech, a company that specialises in data for the hospitality sector, points to a direct link between a fall in occupancy and a “prolonged rise in prices.”

Restaurants in Majorca have consistently complained about a fall in business since last summer, attributing this to lower tourist spending due to the higher costs of holiday accommodation and travel.
