When the kitchen is bare, we can usually depend on a tin of something quick and easy for tea. Spaghetti hoops are a staple of the British pantry, and adults enjoy them as much as kids, and you can’t go wrong by tipping some on a couple of slices of toast. Now, a culinary influencer has revealed an unexpected ingredient to add which he says takes the dish to a different level. Whatwillycook has more than 700,000 followers on Instagram, so he must know what he’s talking about.
The influencer told the Express: “Spaghetti hoops on toast: this can be shaken up with the addition of taramasalata on the toast. Obviously you can’t have spagoops without loads of mature cheddar. Currently I have five kilos of Pilgrim’s Choice in my fridge so chances are I’m using that on top.” Others have shared their own ideas. A Reddit user recommended adding hot sauce and/or parmesan cheese to the spaghetti, and perhaps some extra oregano.
They added: “I’d probably just make a serving of green peas from Frozen and mix that in, as the mild sweetness of the peas would dilute the high sodium ketchup-y flavor of the sauce, plus get you some actual nutrition, while still being lazy and just microwaving something.”
A different account suggested mustard.
They wrote: “I KNOW this sounds gross, but it is seriously delicious.
“I’ve convinced three people to try any canned spaghetti type food with mustard and they all loved it!
“It adds some much needed flavor. You could just try a little dot on your spoon or fork, or don’t try it lol.
“I know it sounds ridiculous.”
Hot dog is also apparently an option.
A user said: “Cut up a hotdog and throw it in there with the Os.
“A decent quality dog can make a difference.”
A different person said: “Parmesan cheese and lots of black pepper.
“A bit of a kick and some extra protein.”
Other said you should use real butter and add cheddar cheese, as well as garlic salt.
Others aren’t keen on hoops at all.
One person wrote: “Get a can of beans instead of that abomination.
“At least beans have nutritive value.”
