Soup is a staple in many British homes especially during the winter time as the dish is comforting, satisfying and easy to prepare. A bowl of the homemade goodness makes it the ultimate dish to enjoy while snuggled up on a cold evening, and the best thing about preparing a soup is that there are so many variations you can make, and ingredients you can add to it to suit your tastebuds perfectly.
However, when it comes to making a good soup, there is one thing that many home chefs can agree on and that is perfecting the texture. Noone likes a soup that is too watery and so many opt for adding in flour or cream to give it that creamy rich texture, but home chefs have been advised to swap out the trusty ingredient of cream for one surprising ingredient that will make soup all the more flavourable.
According to food website Bon Appétit, if you want a creamy soup that will satisfy your taste buds, then nut butter is the ingredient to add to your recipe.
Bon Appétit wrote: “It’s possible to replicate the silky richness of cream without drizzling in dairy — and to add even more flavour along the way. Blend in a big spoonful of nut or seed butter, cooked beans, or a scoop of hummus.”
Home chefs can choose from peanut, almond, cashew, or tahini to give the loved dish a new burst of flavour.
The cooking website also recommended the option of adding a peeled, boiled potato, cubes of crustless bread, or steamed or roasted cauliflower to give your homemade soup a new savour.
Alternatively, if you’re not a fan of puréed soup, but still want a bit of creaminess then no worries, there’s another cooking trick you can follow.
The website added: “Cook rice or barley in the stock for a porridge-like consistency, thicken it with a chickpea flour slurry, or mix in coconut milk or coconut cream for a heat-cutting sweetness.”
