Sonny Styles will not be a Giant after all.
Following rampant speculation that the former Ohio State standout could land with Big Blue, Styles has been selected by the Commanders with the No. 7 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after the Giants took his teammate, Arvell Reese, at No. 5.
The 21-year-old, who helped lead the Buckeyes to a national championship two seasons ago, finished his senior season with 82 combined tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and an interception.

He later wowed evaluators at this year’s NFL combine with a 43.5-inch vertical — the highest mark for an off-ball linebacker at the combine since 2003.
The 6-foot-5, 244-pound Styles had been linked to the linebacker-needy Giants throughout the draft process, and that smoke got even hotter after Big Blue received the No. 10 overall pick from the Bengals for Dexter Lawrence.
However, the former Buckeye is instead headed to the Commanders, who opted to select Styles after posting a 5-12 record in 2025.
Styles had been ranked at No. 4 on the big board of ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper, with NFL.com also giving him an “elite” total score from the combine.
