Speaking about Prince Andrew’s possibilities, the royal expert added: “It seems impossible to force him out of Royal Lodge, but he could certainly be removed from the Order of the Garter. It is a hideous quandary for the King, but Andrew’s association with Epstein – who so grievously preyed on young girls – is now tainting the monarchy and all the good work it does. Something has to be done.
“Banning him from shoots etc would be another humiliation, for sure. But is it enough?”
In a Newsnight interview with the BBC’s Emily Maitlis in November 2019, Andrew denied claims that he slept with Ms Giuffre, saying: “I can absolutely categorically tell you it never happened. I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever.”
After a civil sexual assault lawsuit was filed by Giuffre, Prince Andrew ws stripped of his military titles and patronages.
The late Ms Giuffre, previously known as Virginia Roberts (her maiden name), was one of the most prominent accusers of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and also a campaigner for victims of sex trafficking.
She has alleged that Epstein forced her to have sex with the Duke of York three times when she was 17 – in New York, London, and the US Virgin Islands.
Prince Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing, but in 2022, he settled an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed amount, accepting no liability.
Nobody’s Girl, by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, will be released on October 21.
