Snow forecast: Weather maps reveal exact UK towns and cities blasted by snow in April

Brand new weather maps have revealed which parts of the UK will be blasted by snow in early April. The cold front is due to strike in April with snowfall and heavy rain hitting the most southerly and northerly parts of the UK.

Scotland is the most likely to see snow over the Scottish Highlands and near several key cities and towns such as Edinburgh, Stirling, Dundee and Inverness.

Towards the coast, the snow will turn to heavy rain with several millimetres falling per hour. This means areas such as Aberdeen, Wick, Dundee, and St Andrews will get heavy rain in Scotland.

Further south, there won’t be any snow, but intense and heavy rain along Britain’s south coast that will soak the likes of Devon and Cornwall and counties further to the east. This means key ports such as Southampton and Portsmouth will be subject to five millimetres of rain per hour at the start of the day.

Wales will also get a little bit of rain and a little bit of snow in western areas around the Eryi National Park and slightly further south in Aberystwyth and potentially Cardigan.

Later in the day, the snow from the north will move further south and the rain from the west will move further east. Snow could begin falling heavily over the North Pennines while Newcastle and Middlesbrough will be subject to heavy rain.

As the wetter weather front moves its way east, the likes of London, Brighton and the towns and villages in between could receive up to two millimetres of rain per hour as the rain envelops the entire south coast.

Some areas will remain dry such as Manchester and Birmingham which escape both unpleasant weather fronts during the early phases of April.

Ahead of this early April blast, the Met Office has predicted an unsettled end to March and a blustery start to April as the UK moves closer to Spring.

In their long-range forecast, they said: “Unsettled across the majority of the UK next week, with spells of rain or showers for most, if not all, areas, strong winds in places and temperatures near to a little below normal for late March.

“Perhaps staying relatively drier in the north, with some wintry showers possible in the far north of Scotland. Through the bank holiday weekend and into the following week, unsettled or changeable weather remains the most likely outcome.

“All areas are likely to see further rain or showers at times, with some drier spells in between, but wet weather will tend to favour the southwest while northern parts remain a bit drier on average. Temperatures will probably continue near normal for the time of year.”

Met Office five-day forecast: Friday March 22nd – Tuesday March 26th
