Snow is predicted to fall across the UK this weekend as the wintry weather of January continues into this month. Saturday 8 will see snowfall across the South of England, Wales and Scotland as the icy conditions push across from the East.

At 3am on Saturday morning, Southern England and the Midlands are predicted to see snowfall with up to 5cm per hour in Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

According to weather maps from WXCharts, Wales can expect to see similar conditions at this time, with a wide band of snow falling from the north to the south of the country.

In Scotland, snow will already begin to settle on the ground in the early hours, with the highlands expecting up to 5cm of depth.

Later into the day of the 8th, snow will continue to blanket the same areas of the UK at 6pm. Areas around Manchester and Newcastle may expect to see up to 3cm of powder on the ground too with the conditions spreading across Scotland, to the east.

Most of the areas listed above will have snow settled on the ground, but Wales is still seeing up to 2cm of active flurries.

Northern England is expected to stay dry, with surrounding areas of southern England set to receive rainfall.

The Met Office also shows snow and sleet for this weekend, with an icy feel covering the nation. Wintry conditions will start to build from tomorrow, February 7, with showers developing across England and Wales.

For Saturday, the forecaster echoes the predictions of WXCharts saying showers of rain, sleet and snow will cover the south. Winds blowing from the east will bring a feeling of cold too, as the northwest of England expects a chilly but brighter weekend.

Separately, the Met Office’s long-range forecast shows plummeting temperatures next week. It says, “Breezy winds and increased cloud amounts are expected to exacerbate the cold feel, with temperatures often below average.”

Snow may also creep into next week, as it explains: “Southern and southwestern areas in particular may see some wintry precipitation at times.

“Overnight frost is likely to feature during this period, particularly where skies are clear, however where winds remain breezy this will decrease the overall risk of a hard frost forming.”
