Slugs will stay out of gardens with 1 leftover that makes perfect mulch

If you’re sick of  slugs and snails getting to enjoy your garden before you, there’s a simple way to keep them away. This expert tip comes from Anya Lautenbach, a garden and domestic expert who writes books about money saving tips for the home.

Anya also posts on social media, and recently shared a handy tip that will protect your plants from pests. All it involves is nut shells. If you eat pistachios in your home, save the shells in a jar and rinse them to remove all the salt from them.

Place them around your vulnerable plants and keep their roots and leaves safe, and slugs and snails will be repelled by them, leaving them safe through the winter.

Just ensure they are properly rinsed otherwise the salt from the nuts could leach into the soil and prevent anything from growing.

Anya said: “I also love the natural look of natural look of nut shells. A win win on every level and we get to eat nuts.” Comments on Anya’s post were thrilled with the tip.

One woman commented: “Fab idea Anya – I sprinkle them under my cherry tree as mulch. Great excuse to eat more”

Another said: “Brilliant, never would have thought of this.”

There were also multiple comments saying that egg shells are another good alternative. If you want to try this, then after you’ve cracked your eggs, give the shells a good wash and then set them to dry. Once dry, crush them into a chunky dust and sprinkle them around your plants to deter slugs and snails.
