Experts are sounding the alarm that thousands of UK households could be unknowingly overpaying for their broadband services. With contracts expiring, now is the prime time to switch providers and secure a more economical rate before the inevitable price hikes in April.
For the second year in a row, leading broadband providers such as BT, Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Plusnet and Vodafone are enticing new customers with price-freeze offers this March. These deals are currently only marginally 6% above Black Friday prices and notably 10% less than rates from the previous year.
Broadband Genie’s specialists cautioned that delaying a switch might lead to higher costs down the line.
Peter Ames, an expert at Broadband Genie, advised: “The best time to switch broadband is always as soon as you’re out of contract. However, if you are out of contract you should switch as soon as possible in order to minimise the impact of price rises.
“Switch now and, with most providers, you won’t face a price rise until next April. Every week you wait will increase the cost of the overall contract. As ever, the ideal situation is that Ofcom stops making half-baked attempts to tackle price rises changes and bans them outright.”
