Sky is offering you cheap Pixel phones but this deal comes with a warning

Anyone pondering a smartphone upgrade should be on the lookout for the best prices, and we’ve spotted a new deal cover at Sky Mobile that not only offers one of the latest Android handsets from just £14 per month, it also lets you swap your handset for a new one every two years.

Right now, Sky is running an offer on the Google Pixel 9a, a phone I reviewed and loved back in April. It’s the cheapest model from the Pixel 9 series, but that’s barely noticeable thanks to an excellent screen, camera, performance and battery life.

But read on, as despite the attractive price, there could be a better deal on the phone from another retailer.

The phone retails for £499 if you buy it outright, but Sky is offering the phone from £14 per month. There’s no upfront payment, and this price gets you unlimited calls and texts with 100MB of monthly 5G data.

If 100MB isn’t enough (and let’s be honest, it isn’t if you want to use the internet on your phone!), then Sky is also offering 50GB data for £10 extra per month for the first six months, rising to £20 after that.

The cheapest way of getting a decent slab of monthly data is the 5GB option, which is now £6 per month for the first six months, rising to £12 after that. But other than that, Sky’s regular agreed monthly prices don’t usually rise during contract.

View the Sky Mobile Pixel 9a deal here.

If 100MB is enough, you’re tied into a 36 month contract that has you paying £14 per month, so over three years you’ll pay £504 – £5 more than the cost of the phone outright.

5GB will be £20 overall per month for six months at a cost of £120, then £26 per month for 30 months thereafter for £780. That’s £900 overall – quite pricey in my book.

I would suggest a better deal is to be found over at Mobiles.co.uk. You can get the Pixel 9a on the iD Mobile network on a 24 month contract for £19.99 per month. This gets you unlimited 5G data as well as unlimited calls and texts – infinitely (literally!) more data than the measly 100MB Sky offers.

This contract is only for 24 months, and even with the annual price rises, Mobiles.co.uk says the total cost overall for this package is £503.76. That’s cheaper than Sky, with unlimited data, on a shorter contract.

One of the only things Sky offers is the ability to swap your phone for a new one after 24 months, but I’d personally prefer to pay less, get unlimited 5G data and then own my phone outright after two years.
