If you are bored with the current crop of channels on your TV, there’s good news. Sky has just confirmed the release of 6 new services which add content such as sports, documentaries and art. The best part is, Sky won’t charge anything extra to tune in with the update coming to homes for free.
So, what’s new, and how do you get the boost?
These new so-called FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming Television) channels are available from today on Sky’s broadband-powered gadgets, which include Sky Glass Gen 2, all-new Sky Glass Air and Sky Stream. If you have an older satellite-powered Sky Q box, don’t panic as you can also find the content via the Xumo Play app.
You shouldn’t need to touch or re-tune your devices with the upgrade happening automatically.
Here’s the full list of channels and what content is included.
Sky Sports Classics (channel 1001): Sky says this platform will let viewers delve into the Sky Sports Premier League archives with the likes of Premier League Icons and Premier League Legends.
Sky Sports Vault (channel 1002): This 2nd new sporting service offers a whole host of archive darts, EFL and boxing content including 30 Years of The PDC World Darts Championship and Fight Night.
Sky Sports Stories (channel 1003): There’s also a 3rd new channel dedicated to sports. Sky Sports Stories has a documentary for every fan – from EFL Rivalries to Her Huddle.
Pick Monkey Rescue (channel 1004): This one is for animal lovers. Pick Monkey Rescue features episodes of the Monkey Life series.
Emergency 24/7 (channel 1005): As it says on the tin this channel is dedicated to emergencies with Highway Cops, Air Ambulance ER and Stop Search Seize, plus many more shows, Emergency 24/7 is packed full of drama.
Sky Artist of The Year (channel 1006): Finally there’s a channel for art aficionados, viewers can catch up on Sky’s Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the Year.
Don’t forget that all of these channels can also be found via voice search on the remote.
Along with Sky, Virgin Media also recently confirmed the launch of two new free channels which come packed with movies.
If you have a Virgin TV 360, Stream or V6 box, you should have the new Virgin Media channels right now. They are British Screen Classics and wedotv movies, which can be found on channel 450 and 451 respectively.
British Screen Classics shows films and TV shows from the libraries of ITV Studios and Studio Canal.
wedotv movies is described as a “contemporary film channel with a catalogue of over 500 movies across all genres.
