Sir James Dyson's £6m gift to local primary school

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has approved the inventor’s donation to Malmesbury Church of England School in Wiltshire.

It will be used for purpose-built rooms for design, tech, art, science and maths activities as well as extra classrooms.

If planning is approved, the centre is set to open in 2027.

In November, Sir James announced a £35million gift to the fee-paying Gresham’s School in Holt, Norfolk, which let him continue to study for free after the death of his father.

Last year, Sir James said his donation to Malmesbury was blocked by officials, which was denied by Downing Street.

Ms Keegan said: “This centre will provide world-class facilities for pupils in Malmesbury and local areas to inspire them and develop skills we need to compete on the world stage.”
