The post was inundated with responses but the most suggested response was to wash dark jeans inside out.

Bea Stapley-Marsh said: “I always wash jeans inside out. That seems to stop the colour from fading.”

Cathy Speight commented: “Wash inside out and when buying new, look for the ‘stay black’ variety. Next do some brilliant ones.”

Cath Conroy posted on social media: “Turn them inside out to wash and use a colour detergent.”

Joy Moreland replied to the post: “Wash them inside out, it helps to retain the colour.”

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using white vinegar, salt and black dye.

Kathy Schetina commented: “Half a cup of white vinegar along with laundry detergent keeps any coloured clothing from fading. Colours really stay true and no vinegar smell.”

Lisa Burdaky replied: “Coincidentally, my mum told me last week that when you buy black clothing, the first wash you do – and I suppose any subsequent washes – add white vinegar.

“A generous cup or two. No washing detergents or conditioners – just white vinegar. It sets the dye.

“Also, turn the item inside out first. Vinegar is anti-bacterial anyway so will clean the clothing too!”

Karen M Hill said: “Add salt in the first wash. It helps to lock in the colour.”

Sonia Hamilton suggested: “I use the Dylon black dye. Always comes out fab – £5 in Sainsbury’s.”
