A Ukrainian doctor has claimed that Russian soldiers have etched swastikas on the foreheads of prisoners of war.
Dr Olexandr Turkevich is treating soldiers who have returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity with signs of mutilation and psychological distress.
“I want your children to know that you’re fascist. That’s why I am cutting deep,” a Russian soldier reportedly told one prisoner, who was blindfolded.
Russia defends the ‘Special Military Operation’ in Ukraine using propaganda claiming that Ukraine is committing genocide against Russian speakers in the region and that the Ukrainian government is being orchestrated by neo-Nazis influenced by the West.
Dr Turkevich said: “These photographs….show what kind of creatures our men are dealing with at the front.”
He added a soldier “had a swastika carved into his forehead by these pig-dogs”.
“He told how, when they cut his forehead, they said: ‘If you were an Azov man, I would take you apart piece by piece…'”
Meanwhile, leaders of the European Union attempted to downplay their inability to provide Ukraine with the promised 50 billion euros over the next four years.
They suggested that the funds would be delivered next month after further talks between the EU’s 26 other leaders and Hungary’s previously resistant Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Rather than focusing on the financial aspect, EU leaders urged Ukraine to take pride in receiving approval to begin membership talks, a development that could drastically alter its future.
However, the membership process may take much longer than a decade and will face numerous obstacles posed by individual member states.
