Showers will be streak-free and sparkling clean with 3 items

Shower glass can become unsightly when it’s not cleaned properly, but if you want to make sure the glass is completely streak-free, you’ll only need a few items. While commercial chemical products are great for cleaning, one TikToker explained that you can do the job with some household staples that are probably already in your kitchen.

Carolina McCauley described her three-ingredient homemade remedy as “chef’s kiss” – and you won’t need to scrub endlessly. She wrote: “I’ve tried everything on my shower glass… but this method? Chef’s kiss. No scrubbing for hours. Just sparkling, clear glass that actually looks clean.”

How to clean shower glass

Luckily, you won’t need to find any niche ingredients for Carolina’s cleaner. All you’ll need is some white vinegar and washing up liquid.

Firstly, grab your spray bottle and mix one cup of water, one cup of white vinegar, and one teaspoon of washing up liquid. Then spray the solution liberally all over the shower glass.

Using a sponge, work the solution into the glass. This will help lift any tough grime, making it easier to rinse away.

Once you’re happy that all of the grime and water marks have been removed, rinse with water. To help remove any streaks, Carolina suggested using a water vacuum cleaner — or a squeegee.

Vinegar is a good natural ingredient to use as it contains high levels of acetic acid, a strong acid that can stop fungi and other microorganisms growing. For that reason, vinegar is antifungal and antibacterial.

The acetic acid will be able to help cut through any grime, soap scum and mineral build up as the vinegar kills any lingering bacteria. The acidity in the vinegar can also deodorise affected areas, as well as disinfecting them.

Michael Golubev, CEO of Mold Busters, told Homes & Gardens: “Vinegar is a versatile, eco-friendly, and effective solution for preventing and treating mould in the home. Its natural properties make it a safer alternative to harsh chemicals, suitable for regular use in maintaining a mould-free environment.”

The benefit of using washing up liquid helps to keep the shower glass shining, while also preventing a build-up of water marks. Washing up liquid contains surfactants which help to lift away grease and dirt from surfaces.

One expert told Reader’s Digest that frequent cleaning jobs will help prevent the need for deep cleans. You should consider using a squeegee on your shower glass every single day.

When using a vinegar-based solution, RD suggested not to mix it with certain products to avoid “noxious fumes”.

Bleach and vinegar should never be used together as the combination creates chlorine gas.
