Shower screens can make a bathroom look really untidy if the glass is foggy or covered in streaks, but keeping them clean can be difficult. Soap, water stains and other marks often leave a filmy residue on the glass, and it can be time-consuming to remove without using specialist cleaning products.
However, Tamera Malone, a habit specialist, has shared there is a simple way to keep a shower screen clear that requires minimal effort and no products. Tamera said: “After finishing my shower routine, I use my drying towel to dry the shower glass, floor, and walls. This routine helps reduce soap scum and water stain buildup between deep cleans, keeping the shower cleaner for longer periods.”
It might seem like a small step, but taking a few seconds to wipe down your shower screen after use can prevent any build-up from forming on the glass.
Watermarks are caused by limescale, a substance made up of minerals in hard water that are left behind when the water evaporates and then harden over time.
Soap scum becomes sticky as it dries, and the longer it is left, the more layers of residue will accumulate, which will make the glass more difficult to clean.
Cleaning stains while they are still fresh means they are loose and not yet bonded to the surface, which also helps prevent the glass from looking cloudy or dull.
Using your towel is fine to clear away stains, but the absolute best way to keep the glass clean is to use a microfiber cloth.
Microfiber clothes will be gentle on the glass surfaces to avoid scratches, but the fibres can also catch all the residue without leaving behind streaks.
You could also use a squeegee, a cheap window cleaning tool that removes water droplets and streaks, so the screen will look professional polished even after just taking a few seconds to wipe it down.
To make this habit even easier, many people keep both a microfibre cloth and a squeegee tucked neatly inside the shower as a reminder to wipe the glass after each use.
Spending just 10 extra seconds after your shower to wipe the glass is an easy way to keep your bathroom looking clean, without the need for scrubbing or deep cleaning.
However, if your shower screens are suffering from soap and limescale build-up, then you can get them clean again if you use Viakal, or a natural product like lemon juice or black tea.
