SFC Mercedes driver mows down cyclist then speeds away

This is the shocking moment a Mercedes-Benz driver is seen making an illegal turn and hitting a cyclist before speeding away.

The clip, first reported by KRON4, shows a black Mercedes sedan pulling into traffic before abruptly turning into the path of a cyclist traveling in a designated bike lane.

The incident unfolded near the intersection of 8th and Mission streets in San Francisco, where the driver appears to make an illegal right turn against a red light — directly into the rider’s path.

Video captured by another cyclist shows the victim slamming on the brakes in a desperate attempt to avoid impact, but still colliding with the car as it cuts across the lane.

Instead of stopping, the driver continues forward, veering through traffic and fleeing the scene.

The cyclist who recorded the incident then rides up to check on the victim. Both riders appeared to escape without serious injuries, according to the footage.

A closer look at the video shows the driver as a man with a short white beard, wearing a cap and dark sunglasses.

Officials with the San Francisco Police Department said no report had been filed as of Wednesday, according to the news station.

California law requires drivers involved in a crash to stop right away, share their identification and report any incident that results in injury or property damage.

A hit-and-run involving only property damage is typically charged as a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Cases involving injury or death can be filed as felonies, carrying potential prison sentences of two to four years and fines of up to $10,000.
