The NYPD’s Aviation Unit made a heart-stopping rescue this week, landing their chopper on a ship to save a man having seizures, according to daring video provided to The Post.
The video shows the helicopter landing on the bow of the Deep Cygnus in the Ambrose Channel — which sits between Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and Breezy Point, NY — just before 5 a.m. Thursday.
Several men can be seen carrying the unidentified 43-year-old victim on a stretcher before sliding him into the helicopter’s fuselage.
The chopper then takes off and is seen again landing at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island.
The man was in stable condition, according to cops. A police source said he was suffering from seizures.
The US Coast Guard requested that the department send a helicopter to help rescue the man from the ship, cops said.
The Deep Cygnas is a 123-meter Norwegian-flagged Subsea construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair vessel operated by Reach Subsea, according to the company’s website. Built in 2009, the vessel specializes in offshore wind and oil/gas projects.
The channel is used for international maritime commerce, serving as the main entry route for large container ships heading into New York Harbor and its ports.
The Aviation Unit serves as the primary air and sea rescue provider in the NYC area with specialized helicopters equipped for water rescues, medical evacuations, and hoists within a 60-mile radius of the city, according to the NYPD. It works in conjunction with the Coast Guard.
