A desperate search is underway for a British woman who vanished while on holiday in Greece.
Michele Ann Joy Bourda, 59, was last seen lounging on a sunbed at Ofryni beach, Kavala on Friday. Her husband reportedly woke from a nap to find her gone, with her personal items still on the beach.
The alarm was promptly raised by her worried family, according to Greek missing persons charity Lifeline Hellas, who issued a Silver Alert yesterday after police failed to locate her.
The charity’s alert stated: “Her life is in danger. If you know anything, contact the Silver Alert service, 24 hours a day, at the National SOS Line 1065.”
Greece’s Hellenic Coast Guard have initiated a sea search operation, reports the Mirror.
Michele is described as having straight blonde hair down to her shoulders, hazel eyes, stands at 1.73m (5ft 6in) tall and has a slim build. On the day she went missing, she was wearing a two-piece swimsuit adorned with rhinestones, yellow beach shoes and red sunglasses.
This follows the disappearance of another British woman from a popular Spanish resort earlier this week.
Jennifer Frances Lacey, 41, disappeared from Vera on Monday, July 28. Her disappearance was reported by the SOS Missing Persons Association.
She is described as being 5ft 2in tall, with curly brown hair, blue eyes and wears prescription glasses. Investigations are ongoing into whether Jennifer is a tourist or a resident.
SOS Missing Persons is appealing to locals with any information about her location to get in touch by ringing 868286726 or emailing them directly. Those currently residing in Spain are also advised to dial the emergency number 112.
Michael Mosley, the well-known TV doctor and columnist, tragically died last summer after disappearing while walking on the Greek island of Symi . The broadcaster’s body was discovered following an extensive four-day search in June 2024. CCTV footage is believed to have captured Mosley falling near the spot where his body was later found.
Crispin Butler, senior coroner for Buckinghamshire, stated that Mosley’s death was “most likely attributable either to heatstroke (accidental) or [a] non-identified pathological cause”.
In a separate incident, a 48-year-old British tourist was found dead after vanishing at Theologos beach on the island of Rhodes. The man had been on holiday with his family and went swimming with his niece, who returned to their hotel before he went missing.
