Scotland monkey caught after quick-witted local lured it with Yorkshire Pudding

Ms Banyan told 5 News: “I came round to the sunroom this morning with my coffee, looked through the doors and the monkey was just staring right through the window at me.”

She froze in absolute “shock” and “surprise”, laughing that the encounter “will be a story to tell the grandchildren”.

Teams working on the chase confirmed Ms Banyan had made the call and had seen Honshu raiding her back garden’s bird feeder.

They eventually managed to tranquilise him with a dart, monitor him and then return him back to the wildlife park today.

Keith Gilchrist, living collections operations manager at Highland Wildlife Park said on Thursday: “We can confirm we have successfully caught the macaque that escaped from the park on Sunday named Honshu.

“After a call to our hotline just after 10am our keepers and drone team made their way to a member of the public’s garden where the monkey was eating from a birdfeeder and successfully used a tranquiliser dart to catch him.

“The monkey is on the way back to the park with our keepers where he will be looked over by one of our vet team and reintroduced to sub-adult males within the group.

“We want to thank everyone who has helped during the process and will continue to share any further updates.”

ITV’s This Morning’s resident vet, Dr Scott Miller, also confirmed Honshu is “recovering from the dart but is in perfect health”.

Attempts had been made to catch Honshu all week and he was being tracked by a drone for around 45 minutes on Tuesday – thanks to the support of BH Wildlife Consultancy.

However, they could utilise this information on Wednesday as high winds mean the drone was unable to fly.

He was eventually found two miles from the zoo on Thursday when the weather allowed the drone to fly again.
