If your monthly TV bills no longer feel affordable, there is a pretty simple way to cut costs. Freesat (which is owned by the same team behind Freeview) has long offered the option to use the dish stuck to your wall to beam content to living rooms without paying any subscription. In fact, once you’ve purchased a compatible set-top box, you’ll get full access to live and on-demand shows, movies and sports without reaching for the credit card.
The only thing you will have to buy is a new set-top box. Luckily, there is a currently a deal on Freesat Recordable gadgets with stores including Argos and Curry’s offering £50 off.

These devices are very similar to Sky Q with them offering easy ways to watch and store your favourite entertainment.
They also feature over 170 channels, include access to apps such as iPlayer, Prime Video and Netflix, plus even let you record four programmes at the same time.
Two models are currently on sale including a standard 500GB version and there is also a 1TB option which includes more space for your recordings.
Of course, Freesat doesn’t include any premium content so don’t expect to see any action from Sky Sports or movies from Sky Cinema apearing on your screen.
It’s also worth noting that if you are fed up with your dish and don’t want it on the outside of your home anymore, you can switch to the new Freely service, which comes built into many new TVs. Freely lets you watch live and on-demand content along with offering features such as full TV guide plus mini guide and pausing live content.
Sky also recently launched its new Glass Gen 2, which also lets you view shows, sports, and movies without the need for a dish. It even has a built-in soundbar and integrated apps such as Disney+, Apple TV+ and Netflix. Prices start from £14 per month.
