Savage TripAdvisor reviews of 'rip off' Madame Tussauds left by angry visitors

A man has shared his disappointment after visiting Madame Tussauds for the first time in decades – only to be faced with massive queues and questionable waxworks. Phil, a content creator on Tiktok, posted a video on the streaming platform sharing his experience at the top London attraction.

He expressed his concern for the huge swarms of crowds at the venue, which attracts thousands of tourists every year. He paid around £20 for his ticket, but shared that prices go up on peak times, and can be very unaffordable for families in a larger group.

Walking through Madam Tussauds, the content creator, who usually reviews towns and cities up and down the UK, seemed disappointed in what the attraction had to offer. There are many add ons throughout the experience, which all add up to the cost of your visit.

For instance, to get a mould made of your hand, it is an additional £20-£28. If you want a snap with the royals, it will cost you £20-£30 on top.

“The only interesting thing to me was seeing how big celebrities were, being up close and personal to Anthony Joshua reminded me of where I am on the food chain,” he joked as he walked through.

“Barack looks like he was made to meet a deadline”, or was a quick “Friday night job”, with little effort put into his likeness.

There were also snaps of massive queues surrounding the popular celebrities, such as singer Ariana Grande. Phil expressed that he didn’t know who a lot of the people were, and was surprised that there was no queue surrounding the Star Wars franchise, which he crowned one of his favourites.

He also shared his concerns over the waxworks made of questionable individuals, that serial killers “immortalised as waxworks” didn’t “sit right” with him.

At the end of the tour, visitors can have a go on the ride, which is a whistle-stop tour of the last 600 years of British history. “As a British person I found it quite amusing, but if I was a tourist I would definitely get off with more questions than answers”, he joked, zooming in on figures such as the iconic King Henry VIII.

“It’s a lot of money to take pictures with celebrities who only look about 75 percent lifelike”, he concluded.

Other visitors seem to share his disappointment, with one person leaving a review on Tripadvisor that they were “disgusted” by their experience. “The venue was ridiculously overcrowded, my six-year-old who is not afraid to be in crowds, was desperate to leave as he was beginning to feel claustrophobic.”

Another reviewer agreed that it was “absolutely not worth the price”, and that it was an “overcrowded experience and very unsafe.” They compared the attraction to others they had visited in New York and Orlando, stating that this was the “worse I’ve experienced”.

Madame Tussauds have been contacted for a comment, but have not replied at the time of publication.
