Sausages cook better when 1 thing is done before air frying

There is a way to ensure that your sausages come out of the air fryer perfectly cooked, and it involves one simple thing you need to do before you put them in to cook. Air fryers are revolutionary inventions, and Brits around the country use them to cook all sorts of things, such as air-fried potatoes and even air-fried eggs. They are super useful appliances to have when you want to cook sausages.

Simply place the sausages in your air fryer and let them cook. It doesn’t involve any time standing over a hot stove or turning them under a grill. But there is one thing you should do beforehand to make sure they cook perfectly, and that they are enjoyable when they have finished cooking in the air fryer. Much like when they are cooked in the oven or on a pan, sausages can burst in the air fryer. This can be frustrating for home cooks, as we will likely have to spend longer cleaning their fryer. Plus, it can cause sausages to get bent out of shape.

But there’s one simple step to take before putting your sausages in the air fryer to prevent this. Experts recommend pricking holes in your sausages before you cook them in the air fryer.

Chef and recipe blog owner Sew White shared her top tips for cooking sausages in the air fryer, and included this tip to make sure that they cook as well as they can. She revealed: “You keep sausages from bursting in an air fryer by pricking them with a fork or sharp knife first. This helps to release the pressure as they cook and expand.

“If you don’t prick your sausages, they may burst and stick to the bottom or sides of your air fryer,” she added. She also recommends wiping your sausages down with a bit of oil, along with pricking them.

Home cooks can also put foil in the bottom of their air fryers to stop the juices from the sausages sticking to the bottom, making it easy to clean your air fryer after.

Cooking times for air fryer sausages vary depending on the size and thickness of your sausages and the power of your air fryer. Typically, they will take around 15 minutes but might need longer if they are exceptionally thick.

If your sausages are frozen, you should add extra time to allow them to cook.
