People eat soup and sauces every day but they can become a bit bland. While most home chefs may opt for traditional seasonings such as salt and pepper, there is one secret ingredient which can transform soup and sauces.
A home chef took to social site Reddit to ask users what their “secret ingredient” was. The community suggested a range of options, including anchovy taste, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce and MSG. However, one ingredient stood out and was described as “pure magic” by one user.
A user asked: “What is your ‘secret’ ingredient?” They added: “What is your go to, never let you down, one thing you will always have in your kitchen for cooking?”
There have been over 1,300 replies to the question so far. A number agreed on one secret ingredient which can transform all soups and sauces.

As well as thickening soups and sauces, miso helps to add depth and extra flavour. It has a strong savoury flavour and help elevate a number of dishes.
Miso can also be used to create salad dressings and glazes for fish and meat. Some home chefs use it for marinades and rubs which is perfect for barbecuing in the summer months.
There are also different types of miso, such as white, yellow and red. They vary in flavour and intensity so chefs should choose the one best suited to their dish.
It’s important to always start with a small amount of miso as it is salty. You can gradually add more and adjust to taste.
