Ron Duguay’s girlfriend, former Vice President candidate Sarah Palin, has been helping him while he battles Stage 4 cancer, as seen in a recent video posted by the Rangers legend’s daughter.
Duguay’s daughter Shay shared to her Instagram account a video showing Duguay with his family and friends while he goes through treatment, which included a clip of Palin, 62, feeding the 68-year-old former first-round pick in a hospital bed and a photo of the couple smiling together.
The two have been dating since 2022, Page Six first reported.
Duguay revealed his diagnosis to Page Six on Tuesday night, saying that the cancer originated more than a year ago in his colon and he’s since lost his appendix and gallbladder.
His daughters created GoFundMe page to help offset some of the costs, and have raised more than $53,000 — above their goal of $50,000 — as of Wednesday afternoon.
“I find it extremely hard asking for funds for all these costs I’m going through,” Duguay told Page Six.
“Normally, I’m helping others.”
Duguay’s daughters created the GoFundMe cover travel, treatments, holistic care and potential new treatments for the ex-Ranger.
The Rangers drafted Duguay with the No. 13 pick in the 1977 NHL Draft, and he spent eight seasons with the team, helping the squad reach the 1979 Stanley Cup Final.
He later spent 12 years as an analyst for MSG before being dismissed in 2018.
“Our dad has never been someone who asks for help…especially when it comes to money,” Duguay’s daughters wrote on the GoFundMe page. “He has always tried to handle everything on his own and didn’t want to burden anyone else with what he’s going through. But after many conversations as a family, we decided to create this fundraiser for him because we’ve seen firsthand the weight this battle has placed on him, both physically and financially.
“Because of his cancer, he hasn’t been able to work the way he normally would, yet he continues to fight with everything he has.”
Duguay’s daughters said they had to shift him to Orange County in California since his prior treatment in Florida “nearly cost him his life.”
They are considering treatments outside of the United States, and Duguay said the cancer numbers spiking has led him to consider alternative measures.
Shay wrote that Duguay is already using “Living Antioxidant Water, blood ozone therapy, IV vitamin drips, ivermectin, methylene blue, and countless holistic approaches, while also continuing City of Hope’s chemo protocol and undergoing major surgery on both his liver and colon,” in his rehab.
“I am going to do all the alternative along with the Western medicine,” Duguay said to Page Six. “What I am learning, I will be able to share with others.”
He added: “I need to get better so I can help others.”
Palin and Duguay do not post much about their life together on their social media accounts, but she gushed to The Post in 2022 about their “safe and comfortable” relationship.
“Ron is the first person that I’ve ever even talked to about a lot of this personal stuff. So it’s been helpful and refreshing to have Ron to talk to about not just politics, because he’s got more common sense in his little finger than the collective in DC, but just about life,” she said at the time.
“He is French Canadian by birth but he has been here for decades. In a lot of ways he is more patriotic, more pro-America, more pro-freedom than a lot of people I know, and that includes a lot of politicians serving America.”
