It’s not often I see a smartphone on sale for less than £70, but here we are. Right now on Amazon you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy A06 4G for an astonishing £64.89, a great price if you only need a phone for very basic tasks.
Released in 2024 and usually priced at £99.99, the Galaxy A06 is the cheapest Samsung Galaxy A-series smartphone you can buy in the UK, and now it’s even cheaper. It has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, both of which are not much by 2026 standards.
But if you need a new phone and you’re on a very strict budget, it will have enough storage for everyday apps such as WhatsApp, Google Maps, your banking apps and other necessary services.
Whether for you or perhaps an option as an inexpensive phone for a teenager, the A06 has a 50MP main camera, a large 5,000mAh battery and a 6.7-inch LCD display that’s big enough for clear messaging, video calls and the occasional video binge.
Just note that at this price you don’t get OLED screen tech, which looks better than LCD, and this display also tops out at 720p, which is technically HD but is still low-res compared to most other smartphones on the market. You are also stuck on 60Hz here, when paying a little more for a superior handset could get you a smoother 90Hz or 120Hz panel.
But if this doesn’t bother you, the Galaxy A06 is a relatively slim phone at 8mm thick, and runs on the MediaTek Helio G85. That’s a quite low-powered processor, there to keep the price down and to deliver you basic functionality. It means things may run a little slowly if you try and do too much at once, and you will not be able to play anything close to a high-end mobile game here – so if you are big on Genshin Impact, PUBG or Minecraft, you’re going to have to look elsewhere.

But for daily emails, messages, phone calls, banking and the odd dip into Candy Crush, the Galaxy A06 should serve you well. This low-end chipset may mean limits when it comes to mobile oomph, but you should see the pay off in battery life, and the phone should last well into a second day of average use.
One thing to consider is that Samsung is unlikely to give this phone much software update love. Pricier phones from the firm are offered seven years of software updates from the date of release. The Galaxy A06 came out in 2024 on Android 14 and will get Android 16 this year, its last promised Android version. But you will get a further two years of security updates to take you into 2028.
A final thing to note is that this very affordable handset is the 4G version of the phone. If you want 5G coverage, Amazon is selling the Galaxy A06 5G for £98.10.
