Samsung is taking on Apple with its new Galaxy Watch that’s more than £100 cheaper than an Apple Watch. Samsung launched the latest addition to its smartwatch line-up in July with the Galaxy Watch8.
It comes in at £319 direct from Samsung, while Amazon is currently offering a 10% discount with the code GALAXY8, reducing it to £281.10. This makes Samsung’s two-week-old gadget £117.90 cheaper than the Apple Watch Series 10, which Apple sells for £399.
Even with Series 10 price cuts at Argos (£299) and Amazon (£329), Apple can’t beat the cheaper price of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8. The new model was launched on July 25 alongside Samsung’s Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 smartphones.
It’s touted as being the thinnest and ‘most comfortable Galaxy Watch ever’, coming in 11% thinner than the Watch7. It boasts a super AMOLED screen and revamped user interface (UI) offering streamlined notifications, easy access to a user’s favourite apps and real-time info from calls to running time displayed in the new ‘Now’ bar.
The Watch8 also includes a raft of health and fitness features including heart rate and sleep monitoring, plus tracking for exercises like cycling and running and ‘advanced’ fitness coaching providing a tailored workout program. Samsung claims it’s the world’s first smartwatch able to measure the wearer’s antioxidant level.
However, even with its discounted price tag, the Galaxy Watch8 is still a premium product. Shoppers looking to keep costs down may want to consider spreading the cost with Sky Mobile, where the same model is available for £10. This works out at roughly 33p per day over a 30-day month and totals £360 over the 36-month plan.
The Galaxy Watch8 has not received any negative review on the Samsung website, boasting a 4.8-star rating after 59 reviews – all of which are between three and five stars. One five-star review said: “Amazing watch.
“The Galaxy Watch8 offers a refined design, faster performance and advanced health tracking features. With a brighter display, better battery life, and seamless integration with Galaxy devices, it’s a solid upgrade for fitness and tech enthusiasts.”
Another said: “It’s great. It’s waterproof and is reliable. The swiping function works great. Colourful wristband, battery lasts forever and the connectivity makes the display sensors work with the interface.”
This reviewer left a word of warning to Apple fans, saying: “The product looks sleek but the only disadvantage I see is it’s not very compatible with iPhone as it’s Samsung.”
But another glowing review said: “Fab piece of technology. Great device, clear LCD screen for everything. The battery lasts 24 hours and more. Love it.”
