Saints owner Gayle Benson is already fed up after a 1-4 start to the season.

Coming off a 23-13 loss to the Vikings on their home field, Benson ripped her team’s performance on Tuesday, indicating that changes could soon come if improvements aren’t made.

“I will not make excuses, and I will not accept this level of performance as our standard,” Benson said during an event in New Orleans on Tuesday. “I am committed to making the decisions necessary to improve this team. Everyone in this organization understands the urgency. We must prepare better, execute consistently and correct the mistakes that are costing us the games.

“Words will not restore our fans’ confidence. Our performance must do better.”

Benson made it clear that the blame doesn’t fall on any one person, putting everyone from head coach Kellen Moore to general manager Mickey Loomis on notice.

“Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform,” Benson said. “Mickey Loomis and our football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. Our players are responsible for their preparation and execution. I am responsible for holding this organization accountable.”

After opening the season with a one-point loss to the Lions and an upset win over the Ravens, the Saints have dropped three straight games by at least eight points, all in New Orleans.

Benson called the Saints’ Week 4 blowout loss to the Falcons, during which the franchise celebrated the post-Hurricane Katrina return to the Caesars Superdome, “truly disappointing.”

The Saints are in their second season under Moore, who has gone 7-15 since taking over.

Loomis has been with the organization for 26 years, helping lead the Saints to nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl win in 2010.

Things haven’t gone well of late, though, as they’ve missed the postseason in each of the past five seasons.
