Ryder Cup star woke up in his own vomit in ‘messy’ celebrations | Golf | Sport

Tyrrell Hatton is prepared for another “chaotic” Ryder Cup celebration after confessing that he woke up covered in his own sick following his qualification for the European squad. However, the LIV Golf star is unlikely to consume as many beverages at Bethpage Black as he did during his pre-tournament festivities.

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic winner secured sixth position in the rankings to earn an automatic spot, despite participating in just five qualifying tournaments this year. Captain Luke Donald called him last month to deliver the confirmation following LIV Indianapolis, where Jon Rahm clinched the individual championship.

The two Ryder Cup team-mates, who are both competing at the BMW PGA at Wentworth this week, subsequently partied in spectacular fashion.

“That was a very nice phone call to receive – I was over the moon to be honest,” said world No. 25 Hatton. “Jon had just won the individual, so we had a bit of a tear-up. Yeah, that was a messy night”.

“I had like six glasses of wine at dinner, and then I had a double gin and tonic, drunk that at a very normal rate. And then Jon was deciding what he wanted and he said: ‘Disaronno sours.’ “And I was like: ‘Perfect, go on then. They go down very easily’.

“And then I was starting the chant of basically getting someone to down it, which then every cocktail that then followed was a shot. So we then ran out of Disaronno sour. The guy at the bar made some hazelnut sour which wasn’t great and there were a few of them. Then there was a margarita and then there was a strawberry vodka thing. God, it was aggressive. It was horrible.

“I fell asleep at the table and then I ended up getting woken up and everyone had basically left. It just shows I was good craic at the end of the night. It was funny at the time. I won’t go into details of what state that I woke up in.”

However, Hatton, 33, required little encouragement to provide additional particulars.

“If you want to know, I’ll tell you,” he chuckled.

“When I actually got back into the room, I fell asleep face down on the bed, and I woke myself up throwing up in that position. I had gotten sick all down my arms, both sides, all down my shirt.

“I get off the bed and walk around to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and I’m sick in my face, in my beard. I ended up calling (my wife) Emily saying: I don’t know what to do.’ I was rushing to make the room somewhat acceptable before leaving.

“I ended up stripping the bed, leaving some cash and a note, saying I was ‘really sorry, I was sick in the bed in the night, please throw it in the trash’ How I set an alarm to make a flight in a few hours’ time, I don’t know.”

Hatton reminisced about “shouting Ralph at the toilet” while celebrating his Ryder Cup victory in Paris in 2018. “Yeah, it happens quite often when I drink too much,” he admitted.

“Some people just aren’t sick but I guess I’m one of those people that it just has to come out.”

When questioned if he would repeat such celebrations in Long Island, the 2020 BMW PGA champion responded: “I’d like to think that we would celebrate pretty well, and there is a good chance I will be throwing up. But yeah, hopefully I’m not like falling asleep and I can enjoy most of the night with everyone. I don’t ever want to get to that state again to be honest.”
