Rhodri Giggs is preparing to walk down the aisle once more, over a decade after his brother’s devastating betrayal with his former spouse. The 49-year-old has been in a relationship with Victoria Phillips for more than 12 months, and proposed to her at the beginning of October.
The pair made their engagement official on Instagram this week, with Victoria sharing a photograph of her dazzling ring alongside the caption: “18/10/2025.” Rhodri then joked: “Couldn’t say yes quicker enough. Thank you everyone, I agree she is very lucky.”
The announcement prompted an outpouring of warm wishes, with Coronation Street actor Andy Whyment commenting: “Congratulations to you both.”
This isn’t the first occasion Rhodri’s romantic relationships have attracted media attention. In 2011, revelations emerged that his brother, Ryan Giggs, had been conducting an affair with his then-wife, Natasha.
The relationship, which began in 2003, created a significant family fracture and resulted in Rhodri and Natasha’s marriage ending in divorce.
The liaison also took place while Ryan was married to Stacey, who subsequently initiated divorce proceedings in 2017. Nevertheless, Rhodri has since reconciled with his brother, even acknowledging that he benefited financially from the situation.
Responding to a social media comment regarding the affair, Rhodri stated, according to GB News, earlier this year: “Mate, it was over 14 years ago and I’ve got two kids with someone else and made s*** load of money from it.”
He added: “I buzz off it. It was 14 years ago and I made about £1million from it. Can’t be on X and not expect a little bit of shrapnel coming your way. All part of the fun.”
Rhodri, who currently hosts a podcast and works in recruitment, rose to prominence when the affair became public in 2011. Giggs’ younger sibling had also enjoyed a footballing career in the lower divisions, turning out for clubs including Salford and FC United before transitioning into coaching and ultimately leaving the game.
The announcement of Rhodri’s engagement follows his recent criticism of the Premier League’s decision to omit his brother from the Hall of Fame inductee shortlist last month. The Premier League posted on social media: “Home of the greats. Two more players will be voted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2025…”
Upon noticing Ryan’s absence from the nominations, Rhodri responded with a montage of Giggs’ memorable moments at Manchester United, posting: “13 Premier League medals and countless goals and the record number of Premier League assists. #TheShamHallOfFame.”
While Giggs failed to make the shortlist, several of his former United colleagues did, including Patrice Evra, Teddy Sheringham, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar and Michael Owen. Additionally, Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, David Silva and Yaya Toure made up the remainder of the list.
Ultimately, both Neville and Hazard secured their places in the prestigious hall of fame, with the Premier League announcing on Wednesday: “Eden Hazard, this is where you belong. Welcome to the Premier League Hall of Fame.”
