Ukrhydroenergo power company said: “The fire at the station continues.
“Emergency services and energy workers are working on the spot, overcoming the consequences of numerous airstrikes. There is no threat of a breakthrough [of the dam].
“The situation at the station dam is under control.”
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which was seized by Russia at the beginning of its invasion in 2022, lost power after the Russian strikes.
Ukraine’s energy minister Herman Halushchenko said: “This is the largest attack on Ukraine’s energy sector in recent times.”
Zelensky also expressed anger once again due to the West’s delayed support for Ukraine.
He added: “Russian missiles do not have delays, as do aid packages to our country. The ‘Shahed’ [Iranian drones] have no indecision, like some politicians.
“It is important to understand the cost of delays and postponed decisions.”
The hefty Russian strikes come after Ukraine launched strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Ukraine has hit at least 12 attacks on major Russian refineries since 2022, and at least nine this year.
This week, the US urged Ukraine to stop carrying out attacks on oil facilities because of the risk of driving up global oil prices and provoking retaliation, the Financial Times reported, citing three people familiar with the discussions.
