The inspirational star, 43, was cheered as he ran up The Mall in London in the rain, after a gruelling week.
Kevin completed seven ultramarathons in as many days in seven cities, running through Leeds, Cardiff, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin and Brighton before finishing in front of cheering supporters in the capital yesterday.
Each 27-mile run consisted of a full marathon, with one added mile to signify the “extra mile” people go to help their friends in tough times. Kevin hugged his running mates at the finish line, left, and was thronged by members of the press and supporters.
He was inspired by former Leeds Rhinos team-mate Rob Burrow to take on the “seven in seven in seven” challenge.
Father-of-three Rob, 41, was diagnosed with the disease in December 2019 after his physiotherapist wife Lindsey became concerned that her husband had started struggling to pronounce certain words.
Yesterday, Kevin was joined on a section of the run by former England Test cricketer Stuart Broad and ex-England and British Lions rugby star Will Greenwood.
He has previously raised more than £8million to support people affected by motor neurone disease but still needs to raise another £2million to help make his close friend’s dream of a specialist MND centre in Leeds a reality.
Kevin hopes the current challenge will ultimately raise £777,777, a nod to Rob’s shirt number during his playing career. Ex-scrum half Rob continues to inspire fundraising efforts towards finding a cure for MND.
