Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson may be divorced, but they are not the typical divorced couple. After marrying in 1986 following a year of dating, the couple welcomed two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, before splitting in 1992 and officially divorcing four years later.
While divorce can make couples bitter, this is certainly not the case for Sarah and Andrew, both 65. Instead, the former couple have stayed good friends, so much so that they even live together.
Sharing Royal Lodge in Windsor, the living arrangements and friendship dynamic the couple has seemed to work well, with Sarah once referring to them as “the happiest divorced couple in the world”.
Now, a royal photographer has made a bold prediction that this friendship will be eternal.
Writing in The Sun, royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who has photographed the Duchess for 40 years, said: “Sarah and Andrew are still very close and will be until the day they die.”
While this may seem like a bold claim, Sarah and Andrew’s friendship has survived some tough and trying times.
Despite being at the centre of many scandals, especially following his association with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew has continued to be supported by his ex-wife, who has never left his side.
Although he has retreated from public life in recent years, his rare appearances with his royal relatives has seen Sarah join him, with a recent example being the Easter Sunday Windsor service earlier this year.
While some may wonder if Sarah feels she has to do, it is believed she stays by Andrew’s side out of choice, which she once addressed.
In one previous interview with The Times, Sarah said: “I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind.
“I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs – communication, compromise, compassion.”
