Prince Joachim and Princess Marie tied the knot in 2008 and now share two children – son Count Henrik and daughter Countess Athena. From his previous marriage, Joachim also has two elder sons, Count Nikolai and Count Felix.

Their major move to the US was their second relocation in the past few years – with whole family having moved to Paris in 2019 for Prince Joachim to complete France’s highest-ranking military leadership training at the École Militaire before he took up the position of Denmark’s defence attaché.

Speaking to the Danish publication, he added: “The fact that they are here gives me the peace and ballast to be able to give 110 percent to the effort here.”

Discussing his two children, who are now both teenagers, he added: “They are really challenged in a great way and it’s something they enjoy.”

At the time that it was revealed that his children had had their titles stripped, he spoke of how they felt.

Joachim told B.T.: “I can say that my children are sad. My kids don’t know which leg to stand on. What they should believe. Why should their identity be removed? Why must they be punished in that way?”

Brittani Barger, deputy editor at Royal Central, previously said: “There’s clear bitterness after his children were stripped of their Highness styles and Prince/Princess titles. Joachim has made his opinions on that clear.”
