The late Princess Margaret’s granddaughter has given an extremely rare interview in which she spoke fondly about her grandmother. Although they had never met, with 23-year-old Lady Margarita Elizabeth Rose Alleyne Armstrong-Jones being born just months after Margaret died in 2002, the young royal has spoken warmly about her grandmother.
As the daughter of Princess Margaret’s son, the Earl of Snowdon, Lady Margarita has grown up hearing fabulous tales about her grandmother. She has also grown up sharing some similarities.
At the moment, the royal is currently studying at the prestigious Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Santo Spirito in Florence, where she’s learning all about jewellery design for three months.
When asked by The Telegraph in an interview about whether she thinks the late Queen’s sister would have liked her jewellery, she said: “My designs are quite animalistic, quite raw and organic, so it’s hard to say, but I know she had a love of natural motifs and turquoise, which was her favourite colour.
“She liked shells too, and would happily buy jewellery on the beach and wear it to fabulous state occasions. She would always buy costume jewellery, which is interesting – that way she could be big and bold.
“She wasn’t precious. And she was definitely a big earring woman.”
Lady Margarita also revealed that she has Princess Margaret’s engagement ring, which has a ruby in it.
She revealed: “It’s a Marguerite shape, a particular floral motif, and just so beautiful. The fact that it shares our name made it feel very magical.”
The 23-year-old then revealed that she wore the ring to King Charles’ Coronation in 2023, telling The Telegraph: “I wear it to things I think she would want to be there for.”
Princess Margaret may be thought of fondly by her granddaughter and, of course, other royal relatives, but she could be a controversial royal.
This is because she often made controversial choices and was well-known for her partying lifestyle, despite being the sister of the late Queen.
