Prince Harry has finally met with King Charles for the first time in 19 months and royal fans had one thing to say. The Duke of Sussex shared a private tea with his father, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, at Clarence House on Wednesday evening, during day three of Harry’s visit to the UK.
The pair’s long-awaited meeting, which lasted just 54 minutes, comes after Harry publicly expressed hopes of a reconciliation with his family in May. Asked how his father was by a reporter shortly after arriving at the Invictus reception, Harry replied: “Yes, he’s great, thank you.”
Royal fans were delighted about the royal reunion and took to social media to express their views.
One user wrote on X: “King Charles left Balmoral just to meet w/ Prince Harry. We approve the Duke of Sussex’ decision to meet his father.”
Another one agreed: “Harry said he would check in on chucks health when hes in town. Routine 30 min and he’s done. Good job harry.”
A third one commented: “I’m for sure very happy for Prince Harry because he really wanted to meet with his father.”
A fourth one said: “Happy that #PrinceHarry was able to see his father King Charles.”
A fifth one opined: “Let the family be a real family. Charles should see his beautiful grandchildren next.”
A sixth one wrote: “Y’all haters should be happy for both father – son??????blood is thicker than water at the end of the day. Charles knows what needs to be done. Haters sip on some tea and allow this family to mend.”
Meanwhile, another one chimed: “King Charles is his father, he loves both his sons, it’s time for reconciliation.”
Harry will bring his four-day solo trip to the UK to a close when he carries out a final engagement with the Diana Award in London this morning.
The duke is then set to head to the airport to fly back to the US to join his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, and children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in California.
The duke, who is celebrating his 41st birthday on Monday, is not expected to appear at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral in London’s Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday.
