Royal fans say same thing as James, Earl of Wessex steps out for rare public appearance

Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie’s son, James, Earl of Wessex, made a very rare appearance on Christmas Day. He joined his older sister Lady Louise Windsor and the rest of the members of the Royal Family in Sandringham.

The 16-year-old had made a public appearance since King Charles’s Coronation back in May and sent royal fans into a frenzy as he walked towards St Mary Magdalene Church for the Christmas Mass.

James donned a tailored navy suit with a matching overcoat as he stood beside his dad and royal fans could not believe how much he has grown.

They took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their delight. One user wrote: “Viscount Severn seems to have grown so much year. Lady Louise looks more like Queen Elizabeth than ever before. Such a lovely family.” while another one said: “He’s taller than his father”.

A third one added: Taller than dad already, even though he looks just like him” while a fourth one chimed: “When did he get so tall?!” and a fourth one commented: “Heartthrob!”

A fifth user said: “6 ft at 16 – Might get taller than William.” The Earl of Wessex celebrated his 16th birthday earlier this month.

He is set to sit his GCSE exams next spring, eventually allowing him to choose what he wants to do next.

In 2020, around the time that her daughter was finishing school, the Duchess of Edinburgh opened up about her two children’s education.

Speaking to The Times, Sophie said: “We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely [going] to have to work for a living. Hence why we made the decision not to use HRH titles.

“They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”
