Royal Family fans are convinced football legend David Beckham is set for a knighthood soon after he was spotted with his wife Victoria Beckham at the Buckingham Palace state banquet last night.
The couple were photographed hand in hand as they walked through Buckingham Palace along with 150 other guests, including King Charles and Queen Camilla.
It is believed the footballer and his wife were invited to the banquet hosted in honour of the Amir of Qatar’s visit because of their Qatari connections, with the former England football captain being an ambassador for the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
Although they arrived together, the couple stuck to state banquet custom and sat apart, with David seated between Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Nasser Al-Khelaifi, a Qatari businessman who is president of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the French football club where Beckham ended his career.
Victoria spent the evening sat next to Lord Levy and Lord Darzi.
After pictures emerged of the couple at their first state banquet, royal fans were quick to react, with many believing the former footballer should receive a knighthood.
One fan wrote on X: “Would love to see David & Victoria Beckham receive a Knighthood for the work they do, not just promoting the UK, but for their charity work also.”
A second said: “David Beckham dining with the Royals – only a matter of time for the Knighthood. Will be well deserved.”
Another commented: “Refreshing to see the lovely and beautifully gowned, Victoria Beckham, a tad nervous – a very real moment women can relate to – amidst the pomp and ceremony. David Beckham looks decidedly to the Manor born, regal and handsome.”
According to Buckingham Palace, guests enjoyed a three-course meal at the banquet with a ‘light tartlet of Cornish lobster with quails eggs and organic salad leaves’ for the starter.
This was followed by a main course of ‘supreme of Windsor pheasant wrapped in savoy cabbage, roasted celeriac puree, gratinated potatoes with a soft creamy cheese from Suffolk, truffle sauce and a selection of winter vegetables’.
The dessert on offer was an ‘iced bombe with organic Samoan vanilla ice cream and Balmoral plum sorbet’.
The state banquet on Tuesday was the last to be held at Buckingham Palace until 2027 as renovations are set to be underway.
