Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry and Meghan face ‘gossip’ dilemma in launching new TV deal

Prince Harry and Meghan are in a “dilemma” about whether to focus their next big project around “royal gossip”.

That’s the view of royal expert Richard Eden, Daily Mail diary editor, who says that he is “dubious” as the clock ticks down on their Netflix deal – which is up for renewal in 2025 – and wonders how they are going to make a success of that or any future big TV deal.

Speaking on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential Mr Eden said: “What’s interesting is will that deal be renewed?

“In fact today it has emerged that a senior Netflix executive has been talking about the whole bunch of programmes which Harry and Meghan are meant to have lined up but he used the phrase ‘very early development’ which to be honest sort of sets alarm bells ringing.”

The royal commentator talked about the pair’s recent controversial trip to Jamaica in which they were snapped cosying up to the country’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness who is spearheading a move to ditch the monarchy there. It was a trip that was courtesy of an invite from a rival company Paramount.

Mr Eden said that whether they renew their Netflix in 2025 or whether they sign with another company the Susessex face “that same dilemma” about their future content.

He added: “Do they continue trying to make programmes about other people which they don’t have experience of and which frankly there seems to be little interest or do they make more programmes like their pretty much tawdry reality show or docudrama as they call it about Harry and Meghan and give more about themselves or more royal gossip?”
