Meghan Markle was “incredibly envious” of her sister-in-law Kate – now the Princes of Wales – after discovering royal life was not the fairy tale she imagined, royal commentator Ingrid Seward has claimed.
Ms Seward, editor of Majesty magazine and a longtime royal biographer, said Meghan “actually thought she was going to be a princess and live in Windsor Castle.”
Instead, simmering tensions with the wider Royal Family eventually resulted in the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry stepping down as frontline royals and moving to California in 2020.
Meghan and Harry were “stuck in Nottingham Cottage, which Harry used to call ‘my hovel,’” Ms Seward told the Daily Mail. She added that Meghan’s envy deepened as she watched William and Kate enjoy their “beautiful house” in Kensington Palace.
She added: “What should have been a fairy-tale life quickly soured into envy and resentment.”
