Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticised by a royal commentator over their Christmas card which showed that they are “trying too hard” to stay “relevant”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared their official Christmas card last week, which featured six pictures that were thought to reflect the couple’s year, including one showing their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Harry and Meghan’s card read: “On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions, and Archewell Foundation, we wish you a very happy holiday season and a joyful New Year.”
Royal commentator Rupert Bell spoke to Talk TV and suggested it was Meghan who was behind the Sussexes’s Christmas message.
He said: “Happy Holidays is a very American thing to do, so it would suggest that it was Meghan who had the call on that. It almost looks like a business card. Why couldn’t they just put one with their family? Just like everybody else? The King hasn’t put a picture of him being in Australia. They’re just trying to show ‘look at us, we’re still relevant’. It’s trying too hard, in my eyes, in what this card says.”
