Prince Andrew has been told to “read the room” by a royal commentator over living at Royal Lodge. The 65-year-old announced last week that he would relinquish the use of his remaining title and honours amid the latest claims about his links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Questions later arose about whether he will continue to reside at Royal Lodge, which has now been deemed as symbolising “everything that is wrong about Andrew”.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, royal expert Richard Kay was asked by host Jo Elvin to describe the advice that he would give Andrew. He said: “Well, if I asked for my advice, I’d say pack your bags, get out of Royal Lodge. For starters, that house, as [royal expert] Richard Eden said, symbolises everything that is wrong about Andrew, his excesses, his extravagance, his entitlement, and the public resent it. And he really has got to read the room here. Which he has seemingly failed to do for many years.” Andrew signed a 75-year lease on the 30-room mansion in 2003, with his residency set to, according to legal documents, end in 2078.
