Royal couple confirm special announcement in new statement | Royal | News

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden have shared a sweet update following the birth of their daughter, Princess Ines. The Swedish royal palace has confirmed her baptism will take place at Drottningholm Palace Chapel in Stockholm on Friday, 13 June, which comes four months after her birth back on February 7.

The day is also an especially poignant choice as it will mark Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s 10th wedding anniversary too. The pair married at the same venue on June 13, 2015, which means it is likely that their daughter’s ceremony will prompt happy memories for the couple.

The ceremony in June will be conducted by Chief Chaplain, Bishop Johan Dalman, and the pastor of the Royal Court Assembly, Ordinary Chaplain Michael Bjerkhagen.

A reception and a private lunch will be held for invited guests after the christening.

Princess Ines is the couple’s fourth child, as they are also parents to three boys: Prince Alexander (b. 2016), Prince Gabriel (b. 2017) and Prince Julian (b. 2021).

Much like the British Royal Family, there is a key custom regarding what the newest addition to the family wears during the ceremony.

Tradition dictates that the royal baby will wear the Swedish royal christening gown, which has been in use since the baptism of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten in 1906.

The intricate gown is made from cotton batiste and Valenciennes lace, with a silk undergarment.

In many ways, it is similar to the re-created christening gown, worn by the likes of Prince George and Princess Charlotte and made from Honiton lace coloured by the late Queen’s dresser using tea bags.
