Royal Ascot release carriage procession list after Princess Kate blunder | Royal | News

Royal Ascot has just released the carriage list for the third day of the event. The King and Queen will be joined in the first carriage by the Marquess and Marchioness of Salisbury with a host of royal faces sitting in the subsequent carriages.

This includes Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Mike and Zara Tindall and Princess Beatrice.

It comes after a corrected list of royal attendees had to be issued yesterday after the Princess of Wales decided, at the last minute, not to attend. The carriage procession list was released at noon as usual, with the Prince and Princess of Wales listed in the second carriage alongside golfer Justin Rose and his wife, Kate.

But 20 minutes later, Kensington Palace confirmed the princess would not be attending, and a revised list was quickly issued.

The last minute change meant the Royal Carriage procession had to be altered, with the Prince of Wales joining the King and Queen in the first carriage alongside Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Saud a member of the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

The duke and Duchess of Gloucester were bumped up from the third carriage to the second, and were joined by the Earl and Countess of Halifax.

Following behind was the golf pro and his wife and novelist William Boyd and his wife, Susan, with Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband Daniel joined by novelist Richard Harris and his wife, Gill, in the fourth and final carriage.

It is not clear when the princess took the decision not to join the royals at the races but she was said to have been disappointed not to join husband William and the King and Queen at the famous sporting and social event in Berkshire.

The princess has been making a gradual return to public duties since it was announced in January she was in remission from cancer.

Her appearances have increased in recent weeks and she has attended three high-profile events including Trooping the Colour, the annual Order of the Garter service and a visit to a V&A storage facility in London.

But it is understood Kate is trying to find the right balance as she fully returns to public-facing engagements that have featured an element of flexibility since her cancer diagnosis.

The princess revealed in January she was in remission from cancer, having completed her course of chemotherapy last September.
