The highly-anticipated Netflix movie The Thursday Murder Club is hitting cinemas next week and fans of the popular book series can’t wait to see the beloved story brought to the big screen.

However, they also have some big news to celebrate in the meantime, as author Richard Osman, 54, has also just shared a very exciting book sequel announcement.

Best-selling author Osman, who is also known for his BBC quiz shows including Pointless and Richard Osman’s House of Games, issued a thrilling update yesterday in view of his social media followers.

Most readers know Osman for his Thursday Murder Club series, which will soon comprise five books: The Thursday Murder Club, The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, The Last Devil To Die and upcoming novel The Impossible Fortune.

However, in 2024 the author also released another separate novel called We Solve Murders.

Taking to Instagram, Richard revealed that he has now started drafting a sequel, prompting a thrilled reaction from his 266,000 followers.

He simply shared a photo of his laptop screen with the amusing title ‘We Solve Murders 2: We Solve More Murders by Richard Osman’.

Richard wrote in the caption: “And the 2026 book begins! I mean, it’s just a working title, but it’s got a certain ring to it. Welcome back Amy, Steve and Rosie!”

Fans quickly took to the comments section to share their delight, with one writing: “Best news this year!”

A second commented: “I am so excited for this one. Perfection will be Nicola Walker reading the audiobook again. Oh and Tony Taylor and his extensive road knowledge of course…”

“Brilliant, I just re-read the first one and loved it even more,” another added with a heart emoji, as one more enthused: “Oh yay!! Great news to hear on my birthday lol! Really loved the first one.”

There was also a lot of love for the title, as one person begged: “Pls keep this title.”

“Please for the love of god keep this title,” another insisted, as a third wrote: “It’s a GREAT title, please keep it!”

Meanwhile, The Thursday Murder Club fans can look forward to watching the film adaptation from director Chris Columbus in select cinemas from August 22.

The synopsis reads: “Four irrepressible retirees spend their time solving cold case murders for fun, but their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.”

The all-star cast includes Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie and David Tennant, while Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is also producing the film.

Speaking about the adaptation of his novel last year, Osman said: “I’m so proud of this book, so it is a dream to see The Thursday Murder Club in such incredible hands.

“From Chris Columbus to Amblin to Netflix, there are geniuses everywhere I look. And what a cast. I’m pinching myself.”

The Thursday Murder Club is coming to Netflix UK on August 28.
