As we reach for our flip phones instead of smartphones, Brits are looking for ways to dial the clocks back, with two-thirds of Brits (66%) stocking up on retro tech, with digital cameras and DVD players becoming some of the top throwback buys.

But it’s not just millennials clinging to ‘the good old days’, as a quarter of Gen-Z (24%) have got in on the action and snapped up a retro gaming consoles, with many believing that older games beat today’s high-tech heavy hitters, a poll by Pringles finds, as it opens a Retro Console Clinic, offering free repairs on the nation’s nostalgic games consoles.

The study shows people are looking for ways to disconnect from online, with a massive 78% of Brits enjoying how old-school gadgets allow them to escape the constant buzz of their phones.

While 89% of gamers find that old-school gaming gives them a break from the internet, and almost three-quarters (74%) find them much more relaxing.

But it doesn’t just stop at gaming. We’re a nation that loves all things retro, and are fully embracing #nostalgia, which has ramped up over 11 million posts on TikTok.

This extends to TV and music too, as more than half of us (59%) prefer the comfort of rewatching classic sitcoms to streaming the latest films, and more than six out of 10 prefer ‘90s tunes over today’s chart-toppers.

A Pringles spokesperson said: ‘We at Pringles and the gaming community share a passion for fun and connection. We can’t wait to welcome gamers and their classic gaming gear to our Retro Console Clinic”.

Pringles, is launching the Retro Console Clinic on the 11th and 12th of February at the Four Quarters Elephant Park in London, a free repair shop for gaming consoles from the ‘90s and ‘00s, where adults can take in their old consoles for a free MOT. Gaming fans can either book a ticket for a full consultation or drop in for expert care advice.
