This one popular UK store will be closing in a major UK city and many won’t be happy to see it go. Huge video game store, GAME, will be closing its store inside Manchester’s Trafford Centre this June.
GAME has 240 sites across the UK and is known for selling video games and consoles from PlayStation to Xbox and Nintendo. Manchester Evening News reports that shoppers say signs have appeared around the store warning customers “all stock must go”. But for those based in Manchester who often visit this store, there’s no need to panic as another GAME store will open across the bridge inside a new Sports Direct which has opened inside the Traddorf Palazzo.
GAME will only take a small section of the store which will spread across two floors.
A Trafford Centre spokesperson said: “We’re always working hard to bring new and exciting brands to Trafford Centre, offering our visitors the best possible experience.
“We’re currently in discussion with a number of retailers and will be in a position to announce which brand will be going in the former GAME store in due course.”
The Trafford Centre is one of Manchester’s most popular shopping spots and it is home to a huge range of popular high street stores.
As for GAME, its closure of this store does not necessarily mean the business is struggling financially.
However, in recent years, it has closed a number of stores such as one in Aberdeen. In 2023, it closed around a dozen stores in England and Wales.
Frasers Group, previously known as Sports Direct, acquired Game Digital in 2019 for £52 million.
Game has around 200 stores across the UK, including stores in London and Brighton.
