Restart your Chrome browser immediately – important alert for all UK web user

Just last month, Express.co.uk warned Chrome users to update their software. Now there’s a new Chrome alert and it’s vital that users check for the very latest version of this web browser and restart things without delay. The reason why it’s so important to perform this reset is due to a worry bug that’s been discovered inside this hugely popular web-surfing software.

Of course, glitches are constantly being fixed by tech firms but this latest gremlin is more serious as it’s been given the dreaded “zero-day rating”. That stamp basically means hackers are already aware of the flaw and are actively exploiting. So, your browser could be at risk unless you upgrade it.

“Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2025-6554 exists in the wild,” the company confirmed in an urgent update on its security pages.

The problem was first spotted by Clément Lecigne from Google’s Threat Analysis Group. Browsers that aren’t moved to the latest version could then be vulnerable to things such as arbitrary code execution. This is a serious security vulnerability that can lead to all manner of risks such as system compromises, data breaches and other harmful outcomes.

So, with that worry in mind how do you know if you are up to date and if your browser is protected?

It’s super simple to stay up to date. Just head to the Google Chrome menu in your browser and select “About Chrome”. You’ll then see which version is installed on your device. To be protected against this latest issue, you need to be running 138.0.7204.96/.97 for Windows, 138.0.7204.92/.93 for Mac and 138.0.7204.92 for Linux.

If you have an older version of Chrome installed, then you need to restart things without delay.

Once a full reboot has taken place (it takes seconds to perform), you shouldn’t have any further issues.

If you don’t see that latest version, it’s worth checking again soon with Google saying it will arrive on all browsers within the coming days/weeks.
