We all know the frustration of trying to remove the infuriating sticker residue from jars we wish to reuse, or from a candle we have just bought. It’s almost impossible to do it cleanly and without fuss, but this method can remove the glue in seconds, without leaving a spot behind.
According to thekitchn.com, this handy hack requires only a hair dryer—something almost every home in the UK will have. To remove sticker glue without scrubbing, get your hair dryer and hold it about six inches from the sticker you’re trying to remove. Turn the hair dryer on and let it heat the glue for 30 to 60 seconds, gently moving it so the hot air doesn’t burn you.
From there, you can peel the sticker off as soon as it starts to feel soft. If there’s any glue left, just repeat the process until it’s all heated and peeled off.
After you’ve removed the sticker, use a soft cloth to gently wipe the surface of whatever you’re removing it from, and any residual glue will glide right off.
Another method for removing sticker glue is lemon essential oil. This method not only banishes all glue but also smells great.
To utilise this trick, get a few drops of oil on a cloth or cotton pad and firmly rub at the glue. Within a few seconds, it will start to dissolve, and after a minute or two it will all be gone.
I used this method on a set of water glasses I bought and was amazed at how quickly it worked.
Just make sure that if you’re using essential oils on something that you will eat or drink from, that you wash it thoroughly afterwards, as ingesting undiluted essential oils is not recommended.
