Remove limescale from shower screen in minutes

Window cleaner and a squeegee can help get the job done in between washes so to speak, but for something a little more meticulous, there’s one natural ingredient that promises a shiny shower screen in just 30 minutes.

A household staple, hailed for its cost-effective cleaning properties when mixed with a few other ingredients, white vinegar is the answer to maintaining a streak-free shower screen.

Sarah Dempsey at MyJobQuote.co.uk said: “To clean limescale from shower screens, use a 50:50 mix of white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle and spritz the surface thoroughly.”

White vinegar works so well on limescale as it contains acetic acid, which naturally breaks down the chalky stains left behind from hard water, but on tougher stains you might need to add a few more steps.

“If the limescale is heavily built up, cut a lemon in half and sprinkle over some bicarb of soda. When you rub this over the screen, the abrasive texture of the bicarb along with the acidity of the lemon should loosen the limescale,” said Sarah.

Leave it to work for 30 minutes before giving it a final quick spritz and wiping it away with a clean cloth or sponge.

Eco-friendly and easy to make at home, you can also use this cleaning method on tiles. However, Sarah warns that it can be “slightly abrasive” and it’s best to test it on a small area to start.
